Restore your website, database or email from a daily backup

Every project is backed up every night at 12:00 AM and the last 30 days are kept. Restore files, a database or a mailbox yourself, in a minute or two.

  1. Open Backups
  2. Choose the project and the date
  3. Choose what to restore
  4. Choose how
  5. Wait for the email
  6. Good to know

Open Backups

In your dashboard open Backups (in the sidebar under Files, or from a project's Actions menu). The card Restore from a daily backup is at the top.

Choose the project and the date

Pick the project, then the night you want to go back to. Each date is the backup taken at 12:00 AM that night; the last 30 are available.

Choose what to restore

  • Everything — every website, database and mailbox of the project in one go (the quickest way to put a whole project back to one date).
  • Website files — the whole site, or only one folder or file (for example wp-content/uploads or index.html).
  • A database — the whole database as it was that night.
  • A mailbox — every email that was in it that night.

Choose how

  • Restore to a separate folder — the copy goes into the restores folder of your account; open it in the File manager. Nothing live changes. Best when you only need a few files back.
  • Download — the same copy packed as a .zip (a database as .sql.gz) that you download from the list; it is deleted after 3 days.
  • Replace the live copy — your site or database goes back to that night. The current version is saved first in restores/before-… and kept for 7 days, so you can undo it. A mailbox is merged: emails from that night are put back and nothing is deleted. You need full access to the project and must type its name to confirm.

Wait for the email

Most restores finish in one or two minutes; large sites take longer. The list on the Backups page shows the progress, and you get an email when it is done or if it could not finish (nothing is changed then).

Good to know

  • Sites deployed from Git are restored with Git deployments → Releases → Make live instead.
  • Restored copies in restores count towards your storage until you delete them.
  • Up to 10 restores per project per day, one at a time.
