Launch an app

Deploy a Java app (Spring Boot, Quarkus, any JAR)

Build from Maven or Gradle on the server, or upload a JAR.

  1. Two ways
  2. The port
  3. Settings
  4. Build in the terminal
  5. WAR files

Two ways

  • Upload a built JAR to ~/web/yourdomain.com/app and choose Executable JAR — fastest.
  • Upload the project (with pom.xml, or gradlew for Gradle) and choose Spring Boot (Maven) or (Gradle) — Deploy builds it here.

The port

Spring Boot presets pass --server.port=$PORT. Other frameworks must read the PORT environment variable (Quarkus and Micronaut presets pass it as a system property).

Settings

Put SPRING_PROFILES_ACTIVE, SPRING_DATASOURCE_URL, SPRING_DATASOURCE_USERNAME, SPRING_DATASOURCE_PASSWORD in Environment variables. The JVM heap is set to 70% of your plan's RAM automatically.

Build in the terminal

cd ~/web/yourdomain.com/app
mvn -q -DskipTests package # or ./mvnw … / ./gradlew bootJar
ls target/*.jar
mkdir -p tmp && touch tmp/restart.txt

WAR files

Package as an executable Spring Boot WAR and run it with java -jar; a separate Tomcat is not provided.
